My visits to Davao are never finished without a meal at the famous Lachi’s and as always, my meal is never complete until I enjoy a piece of their famous Sans Rival. Two months ago in Davao, We got the chance to visit the restaurant during the DFAT 2010 event with fellow bloggers.

Breaded Tofu in Teriyaki Sauce
During that night, they prepared a dessert bar showcasing all the desserts that they have in the store. Aside from Sans rival, they also serve cheesecakes in different varieties like Cherry and Blueberry New York Style Cheesecake and Choco vanilla and sour cream but the Durian Cheesecake is definitely my favorite. If the scent of the actual Durian fruit is unpleasant for you then you have to try it in the cheesecake form. You will definitely love it!!!

Blueberry Cheesecake
I first learned about Lachi’s online from people who had visited and it was only during last years Kadayawan Festival when I finally got the chance to taste their food and I can say that the Sans Rival is the best one you can get in Davao City.

Caldereta
The term Sans rival translates to “without rival” and for this dessert aficionado; I can attest that this statement is true in this case. Imagine a cake built with layers of meringue, then covered in butter cream and topped off with fine cashew nuts. Wow! The Sans Rival stands apart from the rest by using cashews and the crunchiness of the meringue.

Best Laing ever!!!!
If you like spongy and creamy cakes then you should try their Creme Brulee Cake. Imagine a double layer of sponge cake with whipped cream in between and a super thick creme brulee on top. Everyone agreed that its one of the best cakes that night but honestly speaking, Its really hard to tell coz all of them are good… damn good!

Creme Brulee Cake
The bloggers night in Lachi’s was not just all about sweet confections, we also tried our old favorites and their new offerings like their Caldereta, Beef Tapa and Chinese Pork Belly. Aileen’s favorite Pork Marinara was also served along with other sumptuous meals like Unforgettable Pork Ribs, Breaded Tofu in Teriyaki Sauce, and my new favorite “Laing”. Their Laing is better than the one served in Gasthof- A German / Bicolano restaurant in A Venue Makati.

Pork Marinara
The level of sweetness is perfect and doesn’t overwhelm the pallet like many other types. The butter is rather heavy, but that one of the aspects that makes it taste so good.

Unforgettable Grilled Pork Ribs
Perhaps some of their success is also due to diners ordering whole cakes to take home to their friends and family after tasting. Make sure you take some with you when you leave. If you are travelling that day by plane, make sure and tell them and they will pack it tighter for you to withstand the flight.
Actually, there really isn’t anything on their menu that I haven’t tried, and haven’t liked. This place is perfect if you love sweets, chocolates, pastries, cheesecakes and sumtuous meals in a very very very affordable price.
