After our short but enjoyable sushi overload @ Sakae Sushi at the Mall of Asia, Nina invited me along with Kaoko and Magnetic rose, to stay and walk around MOA. Magnetic rose has been raving about this new popcorn shop so we decided to tag along and experience it as well.
From afar, the shop looked like a bake shop or a specialty shop that sells food, but you wouldn’t really think it was a popcorn shop. My stomach was literally full of sushi that time and I didn’t event think that Magnetic Rose could really convince me to buy even a small pack or sampler.
At first, it was a total curiosity. How in this world can you combine Carmel and Cheese? That sweet and simple question was answered after tasting the free sample. We were all amazed at how it tasted, specially when we tried to taste it combined. After munching on two contrasting flavors, All I said was “Shit ang Sarap” much like having an orgasm hahaha and I also said “wow” repeatedly afterwards.
We had questions while enjoying the free samples, the friendly staff tried to answer all our inquiries and I was impressed at how familiar they were with the establishment’s goal and the products origin.
What separates Chicago Popcorn Shops from other popcorn companies? Chicago Popcorn Shops introduced the original Chicago Popcorn mix of Caramel and Cheese originally from Chicago. I heard the staff saying “We don’t call it Ca-Ra-Mel” “Its Carmel“. Oh well! Then we all started saying Carmel Carmel Carmel like we were taking lessons in enunciation.
I must admit, it’s not your ordinary popcorn and that’s why it’s a lil’ bit pricey. You can buy a Single, Double pack or on a reusable and refillable tin can for P280. I initially said I wasn’t gonna buy, but ended up buying one tin can of 50:50 mix of Cheese and Caramel popcorn. You can actually customize your mix, I just prefer it 50:50 so I can enjoy both.
Trivia : National Popcorn Poppin’ Month is celebrated in the US every October to welcome and celebrate the popcorn harvest in the Midwest.
For more than 25 years, October has been celebrated as National Popcorn Poppin’ Month; however, it became “official” in 1999, when then Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman proclaimed October as National Popcorn Poppin’ Month.
While every day is a great day for celebrating popcorn, we chose the month of October because of the popcorn harvest which takes place each fall in the Midwest. Each year when the new crop is harvested, it reminds us popcorn will always be the naturally fun snack for the entire family. Popcorn Poppin’ Month is the perfect time to celebrate popcorn. – http://www.popcorn.org/
Popcorn is not only popular in Chicago but the Caramel and Cheese mix is already part of Chicago culture… Can we call it Pop culture? No pun intended.. haha
I really love their packaging but I hope they can have it improved by making it resealable so we can store it even in a room temparature but I dont worry much coz once you pop, you can’t stop.
If you are heading to the Mall of Asia soon, make sure to drop by and try Chicago Popcorn Shops popcorn… and please share your experience:)
They are currenty conducting a survey : Where would you prefer to have their second branch?

It’s so expensive for a popcorn but if the taste was really extraordinary (as you described it) then I will definitely try Chicago Caramel and Cheese Popcorn

Looks like they are trying to replicate the success of Garrett Popcorn Shops here in Chicago… in warmer weather there is a line down the block. Caramel and cheese popcorns are the most popular here.
