A Pinoy Photo Food Blog
Mami is one of the most popular comfort food for Pinoys, in fact Pares or Mami houses are scattered along the streets of Manila.
While completing my Christmas shopping, I chanced upon a Mami house at SM San Lazaro named Jonas. I got curious because the restaurant is always full packed, so I decided to try it. The Mami house only offers few dishes unlike other “Mamihan” that also offers various rice toppings. Aside from their famous Pares, they also offer Mami, Siomai, Siopao, lumpiang shanghai and some desserts. I tried their Mami with Siomai, beef and Wonton toppings and paired with their Asado Siopao… I love it:)
Jonas was established in 1979 along Mayon St corner Retiro aiming to provide quality food at a very affordable prices. They popularized the word “Pares” which basically means a pair of beef stew and rice. Pares has become a popular meal in almost all Mami houses and it’s typically served with hot soup mixed with beef stew sauce.
How about you? What’s your best Mami House experience?

naku, I love wanton beef mami with siopao. I always pass by Ling Nam wanton parlor in Ongpin. They have more noodles and fill me up better than Chowking. Masuki chicken and asado mami is also good, but Ling Nam is the best. yum!
