The best of Samar’s food products will be brought once again to the Atrium, SM City, Cebu on November 12-16, 2008 for the One Town-One Product (OTOP) Visayas Island Fair.The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Samar along with the 25 participating producers and food processors are now mobilized for the preparations.
This OTOP Visayas Island Fair aims to generate some P 400,000.00 sales, DTI added.DTI Regions 6, 7 and 8 will join the 3rd OTOP Fair.Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMs) within the Visayas are joining in with souvenir items, novelty items, furniture, natural fiber, fashion accessories such as bags, headgears and processed food item and foot wear will be showcased in the fair.
Asisclo T Belena, DTI Samar Director has directed his staff to finalize preparations for the Visayas Trade Fair.
Just in September, 2008, some 29 exhibitors from Samar province joined the Bahandi 08 Trade Fair held at the SM MegaMall in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila.
The trade fair generated some P5.5M where Samar ranked second in the highest sales with some P2,066,205 while Leyte remained on top with some P 2,623,197.
The conduct of OTOP activities have generated income for the grassroots as envisioned by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
In Samar, most active OTOP industries include those from the municipalities of Basey, Marabut, Villareal, Catbalogan, Jiabong, Paranas, Gandara, Calbayog City and Zumarraga.
Exhibitors have testified that their involvement in trade fairs have given them marketing, packaging and other learning experiences that could help them improve the quality of their products and their negotiation skills with clients.
