After attending the Volcom graphic t-shirt design contest launch, held in Good Earth Roast in Rockwell, we headed to Powerplant Mall to meet a fellow blogger for a mini *Plurkfiesta. Upon reaching the mall’s ground level, Jayvee and Phoebe invited us to join them in fulfilling their gelato cravings. Good thing I always have my camera with me so I don’t miss out on serendipitous food angles whenever plates and spoons are all set.

Delicrock – Nutella Marble Gelato 120 Php
I ordered Nutella Marble Gelato, while Jayvee, Phoebe, and Eric ordered different flavors. Just like an average food blogger, pointing the lens to the food has become a ritual before spooning the first bite. Gelato ice cream is not widely available in the market and since this frozen delight is not mass produced, you may find it a little bit expensive compared to regular ice cream.
According to Wikipedia, Gelato is an Italian ice cream made from a liquid, milk or water; a solid, sugar, fats or sweeteners; flavorings, pastes, fruit powders; stabilizers, guar gum, locust bean, etc.; emulsifiers, mono- and digylcerides; and air. Like high-end ice cream, gelato generally has less than 55% air, resulting in a denser and more flavorful product.

Due Roke – Roke with Choco Hazelnut Crunch
Gelato is typically made with a variety of ingredients ranging from fresh fruit to chocolate (pure chocolate, flakes, chips, etc.), nuts, small confections or cookies, an biscuits. Gelato made from water, no dairy products, is known as sorbetto (also known as sorbet).
Some people have the misconception that the word “gelato” is related to “gelatin” and that the latter is an ingredient, chasing away vegetarians and other people wishing to avoid gelatin. Traditional gelato recipes do not call for it and gelato, a majority of the time, do not contain gelatin. “Gelato”, comes from the word for “freeze” or “frozen”.
According to the store attendant, they do not use stabilisers and preservatives to make their product last longer. They produce their gelato based on demand to maintain the products freshness. True enough, their gelato is much softer than traditional ice cream and their Nutella Marble Gelato is extremely rich and deliciously refreshing. The small cup serving is just enough to satisfy your gelato cravings but you may want to order the bigger one or just order two small cups to try different flavors — How about that?
If the Powerplant Mall is your Mall of choice, make sure to drop by Piazza Pazzu to try their gelato. When I come back, I’ll will definitely try their Pasta’s and the other Gelato flavors.
